Dr Konakanchi Suresh
Assistant Professor, Physiology
Dr Konakanchi Suresh is a dedicated Assistant Professor in Physiology, specialising in neurophysiology with a focus on the intricate relationship between sleep, cognition, and behaviour. He holds a postgraduate degree in Medical Physiology from Sri Venkateshwara Institute of Medical Sciences, Tirupati, and a PhD in Medical Physiology from Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, affiliated with Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research, Karnataka, India.
With nine years of academic experience at SDUAHER, MAHE, and SMSIMSR, Dr Suresh is well-versed in competency-based medical education, including AETCOM, SDL, ECE, and OSPE/OSCE models. He excels in delivering didactic lectures, conducting lab sessions, mentoring students, and guiding research projects.
His research delves into the biochemical and molecular changes associated with sleep and sleep loss across diverse populations. His doctoral research, titled “Effect of chronic sleep deprivation induced oxidative stress and sleep recovery on the structural integrity of hippocampus, cognition, and behaviour of rats,” showcases his expertise in neurobehavioral, biochemical, molecular, surgical, histopathological, and microscopy techniques.
His research has been published in esteemed peer-reviewed international journals, including Neurobiology of Learning & Memory, Brain Research Bulletin, and Sleep Science. He has also presented his work at international neuroscience conferences, supported by an international travel grant.
Dr Suresh’s current research focuses on sleep and sleep disorders, investigating their impact on mental health and neurodegenerative markers in various patient populations.
