On September 21, 2024, Sri Madhusudan Sai delivered the keynote address at the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) Annual Conference in Bristol, UK. His speech, delivered during the medical conference, focused on the profound interconnectedness of global health, drawing lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic. Sri Madhusudan Sai emphasised that true health can only be achieved when it is accessible to everyone, remarking, “You cannot stay healthy all by yourself unless everybody around you is healthy.”

A central theme of his address was the critical need for capacity building in the medical field, particularly in India. With a large and youthful population, India has the potential to become a global hub for healthcare professionals—provided the right training and resources are available. Sri Madhusudan Sai highlighted this opportunity and underscored the mission of Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR): to provide free medical education to rural and marginalised communities, ensuring that economic barriers do not hinder access to high-quality medical training.

A key milestone of his visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SMSIMSR and the BAPIO Training Academy. This partnership will introduce prestigious UK-based medical courses, including the MRCP (Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians) and MRCEM (Membership of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine), at SMSIMSR. This collaboration is poised to enhance the skill set of future medical professionals, offering them world-class clinical training. It represents a significant step in addressing India’s healthcare capacity gap while providing students with global opportunities.

In his speech, Sri Madhusudan Sai passionately encouraged healthcare professionals to go beyond treating patients and invest in the education and training of others. He stated, “If you can train 10 doctors, train 10. Do not limit yourself to what seems enough. Push beyond your boundaries, for it is through sharing knowledge that we can uplift not just our local communities, but the entire world.” His call to action emphasised the importance of knowledge-sharing as a powerful tool for global betterment.

Sri Madhusudan Sai’s words highlighted the importance of global partnerships in addressing the most pressing challenges faced by healthcare systems worldwide, particularly in delivering free, high-quality medical care to underserved populations.

The MoU signed in Bristol reflects SMSIMSR’s growing global footprint, and the collaboration with BAPIO is a testament to the mission’s global outlook. Sri Madhusudan Sai reaffirmed the philosophy of ‘One World One Family’ and through shared knowledge and collective action, healthcare systems worldwide can become more accessible, efficient, and compassionate.
