Dr Bharat Konan

Dr Bharat Konan is an Assistant Professor in General Surgery, specialising in surgical gastroenterology and GI oncosurgery. Driven by a commitment to serving the underprivileged, he has dedicated his post-graduate career to providing essential surgical care to the poor and needy.
Trained at the prestigious JIPMER, an institute of national importance, Dr Konan has honed his skills in complex gastrointestinal, pancreatic, hepatobiliary, and laparoscopic surgery. His expertise extends to advanced laparoscopic procedures, including colorectal, hepatectomy, and thoracolaparoscopic esophagectomy, making him one of the youngest surgeons to perform these complex operations.
His areas of specialisation include diseases of the liver, bile duct, and pancreas, and the management of gastrointestinal cancers. He is proficient in laparoscopic and robotic surgery, performing major surgeries of the liver, oesophagus, colon, stomach, and oesophagus, as well as surgeries for portal hypertension. He is particularly keen on minimally invasive surgery to optimise post-surgical outcomes and is also trained in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic and colonoscopic procedures.
Dr Konan performs all major abdominal surgeries using a minimally invasive approach, emphasising teamwork with anaesthetists and intensivists for optimal post-surgical outcomes. He is affiliated with Apollo Clinic, BEL Road, and holds memberships in ASI, IMA, IASG, AMASI, and AHPBA.
He has received awards including first prize in a national level quiz at IASGCON 2017 and best poster presentation award at IASGCON 2016. He has also been an organising member at IASGCON 2017 and the Indian chapter of IHPBA certificate course 2020, and was an invited faculty member at IHPBA 2024.
Dr Konan entered the medical profession with a promise to cater to the poor and needy, a commitment he continues to uphold.
