Abiding by the guidelines stated by the National Medical Council (NMC), the Sadguru Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research ensures that any kind of actions concerned with ragging is strictly discouraged by the authorities.
Ragging is considered to be a criminal offence as per the Supreme Court verdict. Any form of ragging, within or outside the college campus is completely illegal. Those found guilty of ragging/abetting ragging, shall be punished severely as per the relevant regulations of the Medical Council of India (MCI), University Grants Commission (UGC) and Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
Indulgence in the following actions will be termed as ragging:
- Any conduct by any student or group of students in the form of words spoken/written/action which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling a fresher/any other student rudely.
- Indulging in unruly activities/indiscipline by any student/students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, either physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.
- Asking any student to indulge in any actions out of the ordinary course of activities having the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student.
- Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any fresher or other students.
Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students. - Any act of forceful expenditure/financial extortion/burden put on a fresher or any other student by registered students.
- Any act of physical abuse may it be – sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person.
- Any act or abuse by emails/social media posts/public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student.
- Any act that affects the self-confidence and mental health of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or dominance, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student.
Punishments against ragging:
Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence carried out by the guilty as established by the Anti-Ragging Committee of the Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research, the possible punishments shall be any one or any combination of the following:
- Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
- Forfeiting employment opportunities.
- Debarring from appearing in any test/examination or other evaluation process.
- Withholding results.
- Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.
- Suspension/expulsion from the hostel and college.
- Cancellation of Admission.
- Rustication from the institution for a period ranging from 1-3 years.
- Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specific period.
- Collective punishment When the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment as a deterrent to ensure community pressure on the potential individuals who can rag.
- In addition, in case of every single incident of ragging, a First Information Report (FIR) will be filed with the local police authorities. The possible punishment includes rigorous imprisonment (in compliance with the order of the Supreme Court of India).
