Dr Padmasri R is an astute and highly experienced Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, boasting over 26 years of dedicated service to women’s total health. As the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR), her expertise encompasses a wide spectrum of care, with a particular focus on managing high-risk obstetric and complex gynaecologic cases. Her clinical acumen extends to colposcopy and the early detection of cervical cancer, ensuring timely interventions and improved patient outcomes.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr Padmasri R is deeply committed to medical education and mentorship. She actively guides postgraduate students, instilling in them the values of compassion, ethics, and patient-centred, evidence-based care. Her dedication to academic enrichment is evident through her organisation and participation in numerous workshops, seminars, and Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes. She has also contributed significantly to research, leading and participating in ICMR-funded studies that advance the field of women’s health.
In her capacity as Medical Superintendent, Dr Padmasri R plays a pivotal role in hospital administration, policy formulation, and quality improvement initiatives at SMSIMSR. She is actively involved in infection control, antibiotic stewardship, and clinical audits, ensuring adherence to National Medical Commission (NMC) and National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) standards.
Dr Padmasri R’s approach to healthcare is uniquely holistic, integrating mind-body medicine with her extensive clinical knowledge. Holding postgraduate qualifications in Value-Based Education and Spirituality, she believes that true healing encompasses the emotional, ethical, and spiritual dimensions of patient well-being. This philosophy is reflected in the integration of practices like yoga in antenatal care and music therapy for labour pain management.
A strong advocate for accessible and ethical healthcare, Dr Padmasri R leads initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety, medical education, and community health programmes, including HPV vaccination drives and other preventive health campaigns. Her core values of ethical practice, compassionate care, and a commitment to holistic well-being underpin her professional journey.
Dr Padmasri R has presented extensively at national and international conferences and has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. She has also convened and conducted several workshops, including those funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), focusing on areas such as postpartum haemorrhage and practical surgical skills in gynaecology.
