Dr Saritha Purushothaman

Associate Professor, Paediatrics

Dr Saritha Purushothaman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics, bringing three decades of dedicated experience to the well-being of children. A seasoned general paediatrician, her professional journey is marked by a profound commitment to the prevention and promotion of children’s health, striving to nurture healthy growth through sound nutrition and compassionate care.

Her extensive experience includes significant tenure within the NHS, UK, where she honed her skills in neonatal intensive care (NICU) and general paediatrics. Notably, she played a pivotal role in establishing the NICU and Paediatrics departments at Sri Sathya Sai Hospital, Prashanthi Nilayam.

Dr Purushothaman is a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and the Indian Academy of Paediatrics. Her dedication to advancing paediatric knowledge is further evidenced by her contributions to national conferences. She presented a poster on Primary Pulmonary hypertension due to Vitamin B1 deficiency at the IAP national Conference in Kochi 2024, and a paper on a cross-sectional study of the prevalence of refractory errors in school children at the IAP National Conference in Hyderabad 2025. She also served as a coordinator for the IAP basic NRP course and conducted NRP training at Sarla Hospital in 2022.

Her approach to patient care is rooted in a desire to identify the root cause of suffering, emphasising preventative measures through education on diet and healthy lifestyles, and fostering a positive outlook even in challenging situations. Compassion is the cornerstone of her practice, guiding her in making a tangible difference in the lives of patients and their families.

Dr Purushothaman’s experience in the NHS provided invaluable insight into well-structured medical care systems. At SMSIMSR, she finds unique fulfillment in the institute’s mission of self-realisation through selfless service, particularly in teaching medical and nursing students who share this noble goal.
